» Introduction
The term ‘Crane’ refers to a mechanical machine that is used to lift heavy objects. The basic function of a crane is to move objects from one location to the other location. A Truck Mounted Crane – is a type of crane that is fixed on a truck, generally to facilitate better movement of the crane. Mobility is one of the biggest advantages that a truck mounted crane offers.
» About Truck Mounted Crane
As the name implies, a truck with a crane mounted on it is called as a truck mounted crane. Although there are many kinds of cranes, every type of crane has its own importance. A truck mounted care was invented specially to overcome the problem of carrying a crane to places of jobsite. Truck mounted cranes can be easily moved from one place to the other place around the jobsite. However, the movement or speed of a truck mounted crane is quite slow, because of its heavy load. While placing at a fixed place at jobsite the outriggers are pulled out horizontally from the chassis and then go downwards to take a firm position.
» Classifications and types
Cranes – in a broader sense can be classified into to two major categories viz. mobile cranes and fixed cranes. The cranes that come under the mobile category are truck mounted crane, side-lift crane, rough terrain crane, all terrain crane, crawler crane, railroad crane, floating crane and aerial crane. On the other hand cranes that come under the fixed category are tower crane, self erecting crane, telescopic crane, hammerhead crane, level luffing crane, gantry crane, overhead crane, deck crane, jib crane, bulk handling crane, loader crane and stacker crane.
» Applications
In construction industry, a truck mounted crane is used to move heavy construction loads, where as in the transportation industry, they are used to move heavy goods packages. Truck mounted cranes are also used in big factories specially to lift heavy mechanical spear parts from one place to the other place.
